                      Teaching Practice 
Week 1 : Wednesday to Saturday 

Introduction

Our first phase teaching practice is held in the month of September. The school I was alloted to was AMMHS, Karavaloor. We were a total six B.Ed trainees alloted to the school. The B.Ed trainees were Fr. Abu Baby Mathew, Devika, Sruthi, Keerthana, Sreelekshmi and myself. 
We were all given guidelines and instructions by all our beloved teachers and principal. 

The classes alloted to me by the head of biology was 9C and 8D.

Reflection on School Experience
20/9/2023

On our first day for the teaching practice, all of us reached the school by 9 a.m and had a short brief by the principal. Thereafter we signed the attendance register. 
They gave us a warm welcome. 
We joined the teachers for the prayer. Following prayer we were given few instructions and the list of substitution classes for the day. I was alloted to class 8D in the fifth period and 9 C in the seventh period. In 8D I began the unit I of part 2 : let's Regain our Fields the topic was Reasons of Food Scarcity and Relevance of Food Security. 
In class 9C, I began with Unit: Breathing for Energy, the topic was Parts, Peculiarities and  Functions of Respiratory System. I used the activity lesson plan for both the classes.
For teaching the former I used description charts, unfilled charts and activity cards; both individual and group activity was given. For the latter, I used description charts and unfilled charts along with word cards.

On the second day, I reached the college by 9.00 a.m and signed the attendance in the principal's room. I went to the next floor and kept all my belongings and activity aids in the room alloted for us. I came to the staffroom for the prayer session. After the  prayer session we were alloted the substitution classes for the day. The substitution class given to me was 8B during the first period. I was directed to take attendance.  The students were cooperative and were good listeners. I conducted a short quiz. The class ended by 10.30 a.m.
In the afternoon, by around 12.45 p.m all teachers and students were instructed to assemble in the ground as there was a programme by blind federation.
The event was conducted by Blind Federation. The student representatives collected money. Their singing was really beautiful.


After the programme we went to serve the afternoon lunch for the students. It was a nice experience. We the B.Ed trainees along with other teachers served food.

After the lunch, in the afternoon session I had a class in 8D in the seventh period. I took the topic "Challenges to Ensure Food Security". I used chart showing discussion hints, description charts. The students responded well to the questions. 
And by around 3.30 p.m the class for the day concluded. By 3.45 p.m, after signing the attendence register we left the school.

23/09/2023
Today marked our third day in AMMHS . We were all happy. After the prayer I was alloted substitution in 6D. I conducted a basic GK quiz for the kids. They really enjoyed it.
Later, during the fourth period I reached 9C for the class. The topic was " Types of Respiratory Movements". I used a working model made of bottle and balloons to explain inspiration and expiration. Other learning aids included description charts, unfilled charts on thoracic movements.
During the afternoon session as part of the upcoming sports event on Monday there was no class in the afternoon. 
The day at school ended by 3.30 p.m.

Cocurricular and  Curricular Activities.

The students were introduced to the topic through real life examples and demonstration using Activity Aids.

I used the activity lesson plan for all the classes.
For teaching  I used description charts, unfilled charts and activity cards ; both individual and group activity . 
Four lesson plans were completed. The topics are:

Topic:  Challenges to Ensure Food Security,
Reasons of Food Scarcity and Relevance of Food Security
Class 9
Unit: Breathing for Energy
Topic:  Parts, Peculiarities and Functions of Respiratory System, Types of Respiratory Movements"

Extra Curricular Activities
Selection for sports items were taking place for the Junior and Senior categories.

Overall  Reflection of Class Room Experience

The students of 8th and 9th standard were given lesson plan based activities and class room experience. Two lesson plans of class 8 and two from 9th standard was completed.  There were description charts, unfilled charts and improvised aid for 9th standard. 
Students were given follow up activities to write report, assignments, create a still model on human respiratory system.
Respective notes were given during the class and was checked in the weekend.
